Theme : Tintin (Kuifje) 09

It has been a while again, but today I'm happy to add a new item to my theme collection.

This time, the postal services of the Pricipality of Monaco, issued a stamp on Tintin in 2012.
Besides French, the official language, Italian, Occitan and Monégasque are spoken in Monaco.
The reason for this issue is, that the editor of the Tintin comic books has issued it's third album in Monégasque language.

The album "de schat van Scharlaken Rackham" or "Red Rachham's Treasure" was issued in 1944, as the 12th Tintin album. The story is the second part of the two-part adventure 'The Secret of the Unicorn" (1943) and it's the album where professor Calculus is introduced.

Tintin and Red Rachham's Treasure (1944)

The Monégasque version of the album Red Rachham's Treasure (O Tresoru de Rakamu u Russu), is the third album issued in this language.
Previously also "The secret of the Unicorn (Le Secret de la Licorne)"
and "The Castafiore Emerald (I Ori da Castafiore)" were translated into Monégasque.

Stamp and left hand corner of the sheet (Monaco)
The stamp was issued on November 21, 2012; but the stamp self mention "2013" several times, as can be seen on the left hand corner of the sheet.
Also the micro text under the central image refers to 2013:

issued in 2012 ...

I hope many more translations will follow, and more nice Tintin stamps as well...

Odd stamps : 08 Stamps with special cuts - 04 a

In a way, except for round stamps, most other stamps are not 'that' odd, as long as they fit into a sheet, when placed in multiple numbers on a sheet.
Triangular stamps with the longest side towards eachother, appear like square stamps.
Also diamond shaped stamps (parallellograms) fit to eachother quite nicely too.

But there are stamps that trapezoid for example, aren't that easy to combine on a sheet.
And jet ... they exist as well.

The list of examples however is not as long as with the other shapes. For obvious reasons of course.

Here some examples :
Monaco was the first to issue a trapezoid stamp

Also Malaysia got a trapezoid stamp in 1967

Malta used a trapezoid set of stamps for Christmas in that same year.

Is it a coincidence or not, but the countries that have issued trapezoid stamps, all start with an M...

Odd stamps : 08 Stamps with special cuts - 03 d

Now to the European continent.
Many countries joined the train of issuing diamond shaped stamps too.
First the Netherlands who issued a special stamp to celebrate New Year

Another small country, but know for its stamps is Monaco.
They issued quit a lot diamond shaped stamps in the 50's and 60's of previous century :

Most of the diamond shaped stamps however I found in Easter European countries:
Hungary :

Bulgaria :

And Romania :

Odd stamps : 08 Stamps with special cuts - 02 f

Before leaving the triangular stamps for what they are, I can't skipp the european issues.

Small countries as Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino and the Vatican City, are known to issue lots of stamps for commercial reasons. However, the quality is outstanding.
As it comes to triangular stamps, I have chosen one issue of Monaco, and two of San Marino

Other countries with triangular stamps :
The Netherlands with an issue of 1936 (mind the cancellation : ADRESSEER VOLLEDIG : meaning: write down the complete address)

The Hungarian contribution to triangular stamps :
And finally a stamp issued by the Royal and Emperial Austrian Post ...
... and a more recent version of Austria

And yes, there are many many more triangular stamps, but it's time now for a new page in the world of 'odd stamps' ....
